Penn State’s open access policy, AC02, specifies that University Researchers may waive the license granted in the open access policy for a particular article.
To get a waiver, click on the “Get a Waiver” link in the menu of this open access policy implementation website. This will prompt you to authenticate (if you are not already authenticated) with your Penn State Access ID. Then, you will be directed to one of two pages where you will be able to get a waiver:
- Most users will be directed to their profile in the Researcher Metadata Database. You will see a list of publications by you that are included in the database. For those “known” publications, you can click the title to get a waiver using that publication metadata. If you need to waive open access obligations for a publication that is not in the list, you can fill out an empty waiver form, linked from the top of the publications list. The only required fields are publication title and journal name. Filling out other fields will help us to identify the correct article. We especially encourage you to include the article’s DOI (Digital Object Identifier), if it has one.
- Some users may be directed to an alternative, empty waiver form. The only required fields are publication title and journal name. Filling out other fields will help us to identify the correct article.
Waivers are granted automatically.
Even though you are requesting a waiver, you should still consider depositing the accepted manuscript version (“post-print”) of your publication in ScholarSphere. It may be able to be made available immediately or after a delay, depending on the nature of your publication agreement. Contact the Office of Scholarly Communications and Copyright for help determining what kind of distribution is appropriate for the article.
